Get to Know Horses in the Arabian Industry

July 10, 2018

Today’s blog showcases a few Arabians that all have different roles within the industry. First up is Mr Boombastic+//, a Half-Arabian specialty horse. Kianna EAS is an Arabian that does just about everything - from Trails to Jumps. Lastly, EVG Jericho+ is a recently retired Hunter horse. Read below to learn all about these horses - from their physical traits to favorite treats!

Mr Boombastic+// owned by Lauren Aguilera:

Breeding and Physical Traits:

Boomer’s registered name is Mr Boombastic+// and he is owned by the Aguilera family. He is a 12-year-old Half-Arabian chestnut gelding. Boomer’s other half in his breeding is Dutch-Harness horse. His markings include four white socks and a star and snip on his head.

Personality:

Boomer is a hard-worker that loves to do his job. He loves getting rubbed - especially on his face and neck. When you rub his neck, he wiggles his face around like a dog tapping their foot. He has a calm demeanor and loves being social. Before a class, Boomer’s favorite thing to do is to stand in the middle of the warm up arena in a circle of people. Boomer could stand in a social circle all day. After Boomer is tacked up to ride, when you put the bridle on him he acts like he’s tired. He closes his eyes, puts his head by the ground and yawns. He tries to fool us - he’s really not actually tired. Once you get on him he definitely shows his energy! Boomer is like an energizer bunny under saddle because he never seems to be tired because he is in excellent physical shape. When we see him trying to sleep in the cross ties we joke that he’s just conserving his energy and fueling up. Boomer is one of the sweetest horses - he even lets me hold his head in my arms. Whenever I get to the barn, Boomer whinnies as soon as he sees me. I always greet him with lots of love and rubs.

Favorite Thing About My Horse:

Boomer has been there for me [Lauren Aguilera] through it all. I have practically grown up showing Boomer. He has been there for me throughout middle-school, high school, and college. I love that Boomer is a constant in my life. He has taught me many things in life that simply couldn’t have been done by people. I am forever grateful and blessed to have Boomer in my life.

Favorite Treats:

Boomer loves treats! Every time I go to the barn, I bring fresh apples and carrots. His favorite carrots are the ones that have the green-leafy ends. He also loves peppermints and otter pops.

How Long Have You Been A Team?

Boomer and I became a team in October 2010. At the time, he was only four years old and I was thirteen years old. My trainer was at U.S. Nationals when she sent my parents a video of Boomer saying that we should get him because he would be perfect for my last year of 13 & Under classes. Later that week, Boomer came home from Oklahoma and I finally got to meet him.

During our first show season together in 2011, Boomer and I were crowned National Champions in Half-Arabian English Show Hack JTR 13 & Under at Youth Nationals. We had only been a team for less than six months and it was only our second show competing in Show Hack. Since then, Boomer and I competed in 13 & Under, 14-18, and in Adult Amateurs classes. Boomer is now twelve years old and I am twenty-one years old. We are currently preparing for our next show together, which is U.S. Nationals in October.

What Does He Show In?

Boomer has shown in Country English Pleasure in the past, but now we only show in specialty classes: Show Hack and Sidesaddle. Show Hack is a discipline that focuses on collected, extended, and normal gates within the walk, trot, and canter. Show Hack is fun to show in because Boomer has exceptionally great collected gates - he can practically canter in place when collected. Sidesaddle is also exciting to show in because Boomer looks beautiful as a side saddle horse. His four-white socks and high tail carriage only add to his cute expression and movement. Boomer’s ears are locked forward pretty much all the time - he truly loves his job and he’s quite good at it.

Accomplishment Highlights:

Most recently, Boomer and I won a Scottsdale Championship this past February in Half-Arabian Ladies English Sidesaddle AATR. We also won Reserve Champion in Half-Arabian Show Hack AATR and also won Reserve Champion in Half-Arabian Ladies Sidesaddle Open. At our first U.S. Nationals in 2017, we were crowned Reserve National Champions in Half-Arabian Show Hack AAOTR.

Over the years together we have won one National Championship, three Reserve National Championships, three Scottsdale Championships, three Scottsdale Reserve Championships, eight Regional Championships and six Reserve Championships.

Breeding and Physical Traits:

Kianna’s registered name is Kianna EAS+ and she is proudly bred and owned by Elsinore Arabian Stud. Kianna is a 12-year-old Purebred black Arabian mare. She is almost pure black, with only short white socks on her two front feet and one small one on her back left.

Personality:

Kianna is one of the most relaxed, easy-going Arabian horses. Kianna is not a show horse and her owner Taylor takes her on lots of trail rides and even practices small jumps with her. Kianna loves bareback riding and even lets you stand on her and do other acrobatic tricks! Kianna is also a mother to a gorgeous Half-Arabian black gelding, Thor EAS, who’s other breeding is Friesian horse. Kianna is also currently in foal to the Friesian stallion again and will have another baby in Spring 2019.
