The Saddle Series: Lary Cox

Last week’s edition of The Saddle Series showcased the saddle artistry and craftsmanship of Dale Chavez. This week, we are heading to Texas for none other than the one, the only, Lary Cox.

Located in the small town of Alvord, Texas, Lary Cox is the principle saddle maker at Christie Saddlery. He and his wife, Ann started the company as a hobby in the 1980s with the intent to provide equipment to close friends in the equestrian world. However, with constituency, dedication and quality products, Christie Saddlery evolved into a full-time business by 1987.

Prior to creating custom saddles and other equine products full-time, Cox worked as a professional residential house framer and building. When the demand for his custom work increased, he left his job to pursue saddle making.

Christie Saddlery is known for keeping “business on a personal level,” and are constantly thanking their clients for their overwhelming support and input. Cox and his team assemble the majority of their handcrafted leather products at their shop.

“This allows us to accommodate any special needs that our customers may have, along with our great system of great saddle fit for horse and rider,” Cox said.

Cox goes above and beyond to ensure the satisfaction of their clients. They want their customers to be 100% satisfied with their products and service. Christie Saddlery prefers to custom fit the individual horse and rider, which is why they do not provide an inventory of saddles for sale.

With clients whom span from Arabian horse riders to mules, Cox understands that every discipline differs based on horse and rider.

Although Cox is known for his saddle craftsmanship, he providers leather work like his field trial equipment, which includes hooded stirrups, training collars, bridles, saddle bags and more. He is also quite skilled at creating custom cowboy action shooters, chaps, and chinks.

Lary Cox is an excellent saddle maker with his own methods to his madness.

“We pride ourselves on product quality, honesty, integrity and unparalleled customer service. With this philosophy, we take excellent care of every customer and help in selecting the perfect saddle,” -Larry Cox, Saddle Maker.
